Situated in the heart of Cumbria's Eden Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty between the Lake District and the Pennines, Temple Sowerby House Hotel & Restaurant is a wonderfully relaxing country hotel. This grade II listed house is located in the centre of this conservation status village and is a perfect base for exploring the area including the Yorkshire Dales and Hadrian's Wall.

THE TEMPLE SOWERBY BYPASS IS NOW OPEN! This has created an even more relaxed and peaceful setting for the hotel, overlooking the Maypole Green and the Pennine Fells.

Elegant rooms, discreet service and personal attention are the hallmarks of our unstuffy hospitality, described by a recent guest as 'combining smart living, great food with dressed-down friendliness'.

Whether your stay is for business or pleasure, one night or many, we look forward to welcoming you to Temple Sowerby House.

WiFi NOW AVAILABLE IN MOST ROOMS.

Temple Sowerby was known as the 'neatest and best built village in the county' and the 'Queen of Westmorland Villages' and, even today, its graceful 18th & 19th century buildings create a special atmosphere, reflecting the past gentility and affluence of the village with Temple Sowerby House being one of it's most elegant buildings.

Sensitively restored, each of the hotel's 12 comfortable and stylish bedrooms has it's own appeal and character, many featuring ultra-modern bathrooms and aqua-spa baths. Elegant Georgian reception rooms create a relaxed atmosphere with roaring fires on cooler evenings.

The new Restaurant, constructed from local, mellow sandstone overlooks the peaceful walled garden and is a delightful setting for both breakfast and dinner. The 2 AA Rosette menus blend contemporary and traditional British styles whilst featuring the best of seasonal, local and garden-grown produce.

The traditional walled gardens stretch to around 2 acres in all and include a croquet lawn and an old greenhouse, home to an even older peach tree, still producing fruit in late summer.

Dramatic walks, serene lakes, spectacular waterfalls, attractive towns and villages, great drives, country pursuits, farmers markets, cycle routes, specialist shops, historic castles, houses and gardens, the area offers something of interest for everyone.
